The fight for pink starts May 10. Be there.

For the adults, Speed of Light starts on May 10 and concludes four weeks later on May 31. In the interim, racers will take on a grueling route with two sprint stages serving as bookends, with a Mountain Stage Sandwich comprising the thick, juicy center.

The Giro Competition

As is tradition, the first stage comes the Thursday after Mud, Sweat and Beers. It’s also become a tradition that the Giro starts with a sprint stage, and we’re sticking true to form for 2018. For the first time at the Giro, the Go segment will serve as the Sprint point, with the Vasa CC Climb back as the Mountains segment this spring. The only change to the course for this season will be the exclusion of Madeleine’s Trail, a fixture on the route for three years now. In a return to roots, as it were, the course will stay straight past Maddy’s and up Wood Chip Hill before rejoining last year’s route at the Special K/10K intersection.

All your favorite competitions are back, including GC, Women’s GC, Best Old Rider, Mountains and Points/Sprinter, with the Team Competition scored by the top two riders from each team, each stage.

John O’Hearn kicked off his incredible summer by taking the maglia rosa in May, an indication of his stellar form. He then strung off an unheard of string of specialty wins, taking the singlespeed, cyclocross AND fat bike titles in June. Marie Voss took the women’s Giro, a feat she’ll hope to repeat in 2018.

May is often the fastest month of the year, with firm dirt and the least amount of sand. Last year’s fastest night was on May 26, with Jeff Owens, Jorden Wakeley, and Brad White combining for a flying lap, which you can check out here.

All SOLs this year will start promptly at 6:30pm. miniSOL will start two minutes after the old farts, with scoring and standings kicking off miniSOL when school is out.
