The Barry-Roubaix was always going to be flipped on its head after the first A race of the season. Meet the new leaders of the Top Banana Competition.

Mackenzie Woodring put forth a big statement for her season’s intentions with a commanding victory in Hastings Saturday. The Barry-Roubaix winner crept up the overall standings last season, rebounding from a late start due to Olympic duties to give Einstein Racing three riders in the top five behind winner Johanna Schmidt and Amanda Ryan.

This year’s she’s nabbed full points at Barry-Roubaix to start the season and can pocket more at the Top Banana’s next stop at the Lowell 50. Kim Chapman came all the way from Da Soo to grab 14 points for her second place finish ahead of Sam Brode, Janet Edwards, and Lauri Brockmiller. Brockmiller is well positioned in fifth place at the moment, and has a number of Top Banana Competition races on her schedule for the season.

Former series leader Chelsea Strate came up just short of picking up points when she rolled in in 17th place on the day. She’s in twelfth place overall, but is already confirmed for a Lowell 50 start in two week’s time.

Lowell 50 is a B race with ten points to the winner, -1 to the top ten overall. Because there is no Elite/Open category, Lowell will be scored as the top ten times in both Men’s and Women’s. If the Barry-Roubaix’s hills make it resemble a Michigan version of Ronde van Vlaanderen, then the relatively flat, fast and windy conditions of the Lowell 50 make it the Paris-Roubaix. The two premier gravel road races in the state couldn’t be more different, with Lowell having almost a third the vertical over its 50 miles. Get registered now.
