Chris Froome showed his early season form at Tirreno-Adriatico while teammate Richie Porte took yellow at Paris-Nice. Is SKY unstoppable?

It’s almost mid-March and Team Sky just bagged two of the most prestigious stage races in the world. Froome’s demonstrative effort Saturday put him ahead of Contador, Nibali, Horner and Rodriguez. His move at the top of Prato di Tivo was picture perfect; use teammate Rigoberto Uran until he had nothing left, the Argentinian single-handedly pulling back an Alberto Contador attack. Then, Froome dropped the hammer as the group of favorites made contact, riding away to put 15 seconds into Contador, the rider most dangerous in the time trial, and 11 seconds into the ever-dangerous Vicenzo Nibali.

Richie Porte played opossum Friday before launching a big move to take the stage and the race lead, and spent Saturday closely monitoring the head of affairs right to the line. He, too, has used a very deep and talented team to hold the overall, and the team’s looking to get rid of him are looking increasingly dismayed over the choke hold Team Sky has over the rest of the peloton.

And you’ll note Bradley Wiggins hasn’t won anything, though he’s a heavy favorite for the Giro in May. The team also boasts Edvald Boasson-Hagen, Geraint Thomas, Chris Sutton and British Champion Ian Stannard for the Classics.

Only Cannondale’s spring compares to Sky, with Peter Sagan and Moreno Moser’s successes bringing them to or above Sky’s success. The team no longer boasts a serious GC threat (sorry, Ivan Basso) they should take a huge number of stages with Sagan throughout the season.
